Discover the history and culture of Brittany

Take time to enjoy the many beautiful historical sights Brittany has to offer. This includes the city of St Malo, a coastal city with a long historical connection to explorers, traders and pirates and was the home of the navigator Jacques Cartier, who discovered Canada. As well as this, don’t forget to try the Breton cuisine! Speaking of which, if you mention the town of Cancale to any frnechman, the instant response will be ‘oysters’; the magnificent molluscs have been cultivated in this attractive fishing village for hundreds of years. There are also breathtaking views over the Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel and scenic walks in abundance here.

Brest; A Real Naval Treat

explore the heart of Brest, a famous naval port, nestled in one of France’s most beautiful natural harbours. Be sure to explore quayside Brest harbour, the ‘Rade de Brest’, a sheltered area of the sea big enough for great ships to lie at anchor. Although it was heavily bombed in 1944, this is by no means the town’s most interesting feature: it has rebuilt itself around a vision of the future, without honouring its past. Be sure to visit castle and maritime museum. Finally, whatever you do, you mustn’t leave Brest without paying a visit to Océanopolis, the only ocean discovery centre of its kind in Europe.

Mont St Michel – A UNESCO world heritage site

As one of France’s most recognisable and stunning landmarks, Mont St Michel remains a must see for anyone wanting to experience a ‘magical’ island residing a medieval monastery. Because of efforts to preserve the islands astonishing surrounds, the only gateway to the island is via ‘Passeurs’, ultra modern shuttle busses that take you directly to the mount. Once arrived, you can travel all the way to Benedictine Abbey and take in the dramatic and astonishing view of the French Coastline.

See all this as well as the walled town of Vannes, Paul Gauguin’s Pont Aven & the captivating Quimper at the heart of Brittany on this tour of discovery.
