Above Nicky Nook
Our Nicky Nook trip this year now has a fantastic tour of a family run cheese business with tastings and refreshments after. Three generations of the same family have been hand making cheeses in the traditional ways for over 50 years. They are waiting to welcome you to their dairy.
A Taste of Lancashire!
After meeting your guide you will visit a third generation family cheese making business based in the market town of Garstang in the North West of England. The area has a long history of cheese making with records dating back as far as the 13th century. Enjoy a tour giving you an insight into how the cheeses are produced, along with a tasting of their dairy delights and a cup of tea or coffee.
Lunch
Enjoy a two-course lunch in a traditional Lancashire pub with spectacular views.
Tales Tour: Above Nicky Nook
It is in this area where the River Wyre has its source, on the western edge of the Forest of Bowland, in the hills above Nicky Nook. The Wyre travels south by Scorton and Abbeystead, through Dolphinholme and Garstang to Catterall. Here it meets its first major tributary, the River Calder.
The Hamlet of Scorton
There are some lovely hamlets and villages on the western edge of the Forest of Bowland in the area of the River Wyre. None of them more interesting than Scorton nestling as it does under Nicky Nook. These stone barns are full of rustic character and selling unusual gifts. They display their wares on traditional dressers and old style shelving. For sale outside is the largest collection of hardy herbaceous perennials in the North West. You are able to enjoy the wonderful ‘growing display’ of plants in the herbaceous border and the beautifully renovated Orchard Garden. Take time out to experience the local, gorgeous homemade ice cream.
This tour is available Tuesdays – Sundays but not on Mondays.
