High Tea on the Thames
What is Afternoon Tea?
Afternoon Tea is a tea-related ritual, introduced in Britain in the early 1840s. It evolved as a mini meal to stem the hunger and anticipation of an evening meal at 8pm.
Afternoon Tea is a meal composed of sandwiches (usually cut delicately into ‘fingers’), scones with clotted cream and jam, sweet pastries and cakes. Interestingly, scones were not a common feature of early Afternoon Tea and were only introduced in the twentieth century.
Now’s your chance to take Afternoon Tea while cruising along the Thames. What a civilised way to pass the afternoon! And afterwards, a night in a centrally situated hotel with a full English breakfast on Monday morning. The cruise departs and returns to Tower Pier, and is a great way to spend the afternoon. During the 1 1/2 hour cruise, there is live commentary and you can take the air on the upper deck of the boat – weather permitting of course.

Day 1
Sunday: Travel to London – Tea on the Thames
Travel to London at your leisure to arrive early afternoon. Depending on timings, you may be able to check in at your hotel. You will need to be at Tower Pier at around 3.00pm, as your boat departs at 3.30pm for a 90 minute cruise. Your Afternoon Tea wouldn’t be right without scones, jam and a generous dollop of cream, so fear not you’ll find those along with the selection of finger sandwiches and cakes. Yum yum!
Plus of course tea! In fact an almost endless supply, if that’s what takes your fancy.
And when you’ve finished your tea, you can always stroll upstairs to take in the 360 degree views of London’s riverside landmarks. On arrival back at Tower Pier, make your way to your hotel, where the rest of the evening is at your leisure.
Day 2
Monday: London – Shopping / Museums
Enjoy a full English breakfast in the hotel and you then have some free time to explore the sites of the Capital. We can arrange a visit to The Tower of London, maybe a trip on the London Eye or a guided tour around Docklands and a trip on the Emirates Airline across the Thames – we will be delighted to offer suggestions. Leave London at your leisure to return home.
