Ports of call:
The Hanseatic city of Bergen has many attractions, including the UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf, with its colourful timbered houses and cobbled streets; a vibrant fish market; and the Troldhaugen Museum, the former home of Norway’s most famous composer, Edvard Grieg.
Flåm is a tiny village on the banks of the Aurlandsfjord, one of the branches of the beautiful Sognefjord – the longest and deepest fjord in Europe. The setting is utterly spectacular.
Ålesund is a pretty town, renowned for its architecture and art nouveau style. As the fishing capital of Norway Alesund hosts delicious sea food restaurants. The town’s backdrop is not its only fascinating feature, as it is built on islands that extend out into the sea.
Olden, Nordfjords, Norway
The charming village of Olden is set amongst green meadows – ablaze with colourful flowers throughout the summer – and babbling brooks meandering between pretty houses. It’s the gateway to the famous Briksdal glacier arm, which is set between tumbling waterfalls and high peaks.
Eidfjord, Hardangerfjord, Norway
Eidfjord could quite possibly be the most excruciatingly beautiful place in the fjords. Set amongst a back-drop of soaring mountains, engraved with rivers and waterfalls running deep through the villages below, you will not be cheated for photo ops. There is a very tranquil feel to Eidfjord, the lush gardens and fields run for miles, meandering through clusters of wood-slat homes in ice-cream hues.
Stavanger is a vibrant and exciting city which oozes charm. The old town, Gamle Stavanger, has narrow winding streets and ancient wooden house gathered round the market. The Lysefjord offers breathtaking fjord scenery.
