Fabulous Floralia and Colourful Keukenhof
Just outside Brussels, the Floralia Spring Flower Exhibition offers an unforgettable experience. Open from 04 April to 03 May 2020, the park’s 14 hectares incorporate nearly all spring bulb varieties. Each year, the castle gardeners plant more than one million bulbs by hand, ready for the spring flowering. Almost 400 varieties of tulips are tended to, along with a variety of hyacinths and daffodils.
Keukenhof Gardens, once a modest herb garden, is now the site of the Dutch bulb growing industry’s annual petal spectacular. Between March and May each year, seven million bulbs planted across 70 acres burst into bloom. Thousands of visitors from across the world descend to see not just tulips, but daffodils, hyacinths, narcissi, and crocuses.
The fascinating, historic Belgian port city of Antwerp makes an ideal base, located between the two flower shows. Discover the city’s Diamond Quarter, the magnificent Central Station and the Cathedral of Our Lady. Wander down to the river and visit the superb MAS Museum, or perhaps visit Rubens’ House. You could also have a tour of the De Koninck brewery and sample the local brew. Alternative locations in the south of Holland or northern Belgium are also possible to combine with a longer stay to discover the Benelux countries.
