Meet your guide and scenic tour

Meet your guide in Gloucester and then enjoy a tour to “Middle Earth” via the Severn and Wye Smokery for an opportunity to buy morning coffee. The inspiration for JR Tolkein, The Forest of Dean has inspired writers and filmmakers from Dennis Potter and Harry Potter, (J K Rowling was born not far away) to Star Wars. An ancient forest, mined for centuries, this was where Harry Potter and Hermione fled in the Deathly Hallows. It was so otherworldly that JJ Abrahams used it to film The Force Awakens.

Visit to Puzzlewood

Puzzlewood has been used as the backdrop for countless TV shows and films, including Dr Who, Merlin and Star Wars (Yoda, or Frank Oz, who voiced the character, was born just outside the Forest in Hereford). It is said that Puzzlewood was an inspiration for the forests of Middle-earth in The Lord of Rings, such as the Old Forest, Mirkwood, Fangorn or Lothlórien. Certainly Tolkein was a frequent visitor. A magical space – see if you can find the fairies!

Lunch at Whitemead

Tales tour

Take a tour through King Arthur country – the beautiful Wye Valley, which marks the border between England and Wales. Arguably the first ‘tourist’ destination, its picturesque beauty has inspired Wordsworth, Tennyson and Coleridge, who described it as ‘Godly’.
