What better way to celebrate the inspirational women of Manchester than to curate a day trip inspired by them!

The remarkable women of Greater Manchester have accomplished great things in the past which changed the course of history. Whether it be battling for the vote, winning an array of gold medals in the Olympics or smashing through glass ceilings, the women of Manchester continue to do great things every day.

Join us on a day trip worth writing novels about that incorporates notable locations across Manchester which have roots set in women’s history. See the below outline of our itinerary for the Inspirational Women of Manchester day trip, perfect for group visits.

Highlights include:

Elizabeth Gaskell’s House

Novelist Elizabeth Gaskell herself lived here from 1850 to 1865. Most of her famous novels, including Cranford, Ruth, North and South and Wives and Daughters were written withing the 4-walls of her Manchester home. She also wrote the biography of her friend Charlotte Brontë, plus many lively letters. Your guide has plenty of facts and stories to share with you on your tour around Elizabeth Gaskell’s home.

Lunchtime Cruise on the Emmeline Pankhurst

Lunch is enjoyed on the luxury purpose-built barge, the Emmeline Pankhurst, named after the famous Manchester suffragette. This popular two-hour cruise is a circular voyage which starts in Castlefield, in the heart of Roman Manchester. Begin by sailing along the Bridgewater Canal to Pomona Lock which gives access onto the Manchester Ship Canal, the River Irwell and the famous Salford Quays. Just some of the sights on this cruise whilst enjoying your lunch include The Imperial War Museum-North, The Lowry, Manchester United Stadium, and Media City UK.

Peoples History Museum

Round off your day at The People’s History Museum; the national museum of democracy, telling the story of its development in Britain: past, present, and future. The museum provides opportunities for everyone to be inspired by and get involved with ideas worth fighting for; such as equality, social justice, co-operation, and a fair world for all.
