Day 1-2
Travel to Lake Como
Enjoy spectacular scenery as you travel through France to Lake Como, stopping en route for an overnight stop before arriving at your hotel in Cadenabbia on day 2.
Day 3
Lake Como Cruise and Sightseeing
This morning we take to the shimmering waters of Lake Como to enjoy a relaxing cruise. A local guide will describe the history of the lake and reveal the stories of many of the beautiful lakeside villas. We then take a scenic drive around the lake to really get the feel of this magnificent natural wonder. We stop at Tremezzo and chic Bellagio, ranked as one of Europe’s most beautiful towns.
Day 4
At Leisure
A day to enjoy the facilities at the hotel and explore Cadenabbia and the surrounding area. Perhaps take the 15-minute walk along the shore to the Villa Carlotta, a beautiful hillside villa with sumptuous interiors and gardens. Alternatively, take one of the little ferries across the lake to Bellagio or Varenna to discover more of the places seen yesterday.
Day 5
Exploring Historic Como
Today we travel to the southern end of the lake to spend time in the historic city of Como, its old town still protected by high walls. We spend the whole day in Como so there’s plenty of time to explore the narrow streets, filled with small, unique local and designer shops. Step inside the stunning 14th century cathedral or perhaps take the funicular up to the quiet hilltop village of Brunate for a memorable panorama of mountains and lakes. Then enjoy an ice cream as you take a stroll along the beautiful lakeside promenade.
Day 6
St Moritz and the Bernina Express
A truly memorable excursion today with a ride through the Italian and Swiss Alps on board the wonderful Bernina Express train, one of Europe’s most spectacular railway journeys. In our reserved carriage we’ll cross 196 bridges as the train reaches the summit of the Bernina Pass and crosses the Morteratsch glacier on its way to the exclusive Swiss resort of St Moritz. We then take a scenic journey by coach back to Lake Como.
Day 7
Lake Maggiore and Lake Lugano, or day excursion to Milan
After the thrill of the Bernina Express, today is more leisurely with a short drive across the border into Switzerland to visit Lugano, an attractive town sitting on the shore of the lake named after it. Its palm-lined promenade offers a Mediterranean feel. We cross back into Italy and drive along the shores of Lake Maggiore to visit the charming town of Stresa. As an alternative to more lakeside sightseeing, take a day trip to Milan, Italy’s fashion capital. Explore at leisure or take an optional guided tour that includes the famous Duomo Cathedral and the truly magnificent La Scala Opera House.
Day 8-9
Return to the UK
It’s time to leave Lake Como and return to the UK. Stop for an overnight stay in France before taking a short sea crossing on day 9.
