City of Firsts – guided coach tour

See the most famous sights of Manchester and listen to unusual tales and curiosities as you travel through Manchester’s busy streets. You will discover the city’s heritage as the birthplace of new ideas, innovations and great inventions. Find out where Mr Rolls met Mr Royce why Manchester was the first modern city and where the famous juice drink ‘Vimto’ was invented! The tour features over 100 facts and original tales of Manchester’s buildings, history, transport, technology, religion, science, Manchester music, food, education, football, industry, culture, literature and politics.

Lunch at the Midland Hotel

Enjoy a two-course lunch at this iconic hotel in central Manchester.

Science and Industry Museum

The museum is on the site of the oldest surviving passenger railway station, in the heart of the world’s first industrial city, today alive with innovative discoveries in science and technology. This globally important heritage site comprises five listed buildings, two of them listed Grade 1. This site was the original terminus of the world’s first inter-city railway and the characteristic 1830 Warehouse epitomises Manchester’s 19th-century reputation as the “warehouse of the western world”.
