NEW! GROUP TOUR 2019 – Messing About on the River

3 day tour
From £155 per person

Includes a Full Day Guided Tour

Kenneth Grahame wrote all about the joys of Thames river life in ‘The Wind in the Willows’ and this trip aims to give you a feel of the pleasure that can be derived from messing about on the river.

This new 3 day tour includes a full day out with a guide, offering a great chance to learn about the Thames Valley.  You will visit Henley on Thames, in the morning, enjoy a two course lunch in Marlow, a river cruise on the Thames, and a chance to explore this Georgian Market town before returning to your hotel for dinner.

Your hotel will be in the Heathrow area which means you have great access to many attractions such as Kew Gardens, RHS Wisley, Windsor and Hampton Court, which you can visit on either your arrival or departure days. Please contact us for more details.

Short of time? We also offer this as a day trip

March - October 2019

Suggested itinerary

Day 1

Travel to London

Arrive in the London area in the afternoon. Your hotel will be in the Heathrow area, so why not spend some time in Windsor, maybe just for a look round, or there is the option to visit the Castle. Alternatively Kew Gardens and Hampton Court are also close. Please contact us for suggestions.

Day 2

Henley on Thames and Marlow

Enjoy a full English breakfast in the hotel before taking the short drive to Henley on Thames.

10.30am Henley on Thames

On arrival in Henley, meet with your guide and you will have the chance to look round this pretty town overlooked by beautiful Chiltern landscape, wooded hills and green fields. The town, which was founded ion the 12th century, is probably best known for its royal regatta, attracting some of the world’s best rowers.

1.00pm Lunch: Marlow

Enjoy a two course lunch followed by tea and coffee.

3.00pm Marlow return cruise

After lunch make your way to the banks of the River Thames in Marlow where you will take a 40 minute return trip to Temple Lock. This lock is quite unique in that when a new one was built in 1890, the builders left the old one alongside it. The surrounding area is very green and pleasant with flowers growing on the banks of the river, an ideal place to enjoy a relaxing cruise.

3.45pm Marlow: A Georgian Market Town

The Thames is at its most lovely as it flows through this pretty Georgian market town; spanned by an elegant suspension bridge built in the 19th century. Every year the Queen’s Swan Marker arrives at the town to put tags on the new cygnets. This is known as the ‘Swan Upping’ and is a long standing tradition in the area. You may wish to have afternoon tea in one of the town’s cafes before leaving.

Return to your hotel with the chance to relax before dinner.

Day 3

Return home

After breakfast in the hotel, you have the rest of the day until you leave London at your leisure.

Suggested hotels

We offer a selection of hotels in the Heathrow area, including Holiday Inn Shepperton, Holiday Inn Heathrow M4J4, Crowne Plaza Heathrow and Holiday Inn Ariel.
