Morning Coffee at the National Memorial Arboretum

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

(Poem by Robert Laurence Binyon (1869-1943), published in The Times newspaper on 21st September 1914.)

After meeting your local guide for the day, you will enjoy tea, coffee and biscuits at The Pavilion Café. Afterwards, you can set off to explore this peaceful and beautiful place. The National Memorial Arboretum is a national site of remembrance which honours the fallen and recognises the sacrifices made on our behalf. Set within its 150 acres, the Arboretum contains over 50,000 trees and adds more each year. There are over 150 memorials and plots for the armed forces, civilian organisations and voluntary bodies who have played a part in serving the country. A memorial service is held in the Chapel every day at 11.00am.

Lunch at The George Hotel, Lichfield.

You will be served a two-course lunch followed by tea and coffee in this hotel.

Lichfield is notable for its Medieval cathedral with its unique three-spires, ‘The Ladies of the Vale’. The Cathedral is home to many priceless Anglo Saxon artefacts including the St Chad Gospels as well as the Lichfield Angel. The Lichfield Heritage Centre details the city’s rich and varied history by way of the Treasury. This is wonderful display of silver from the city.  There are also the Staffordshire Millennium Embroideries, which are a unique representation of a thousand years of Staffordshire’s history. Finally see the Heritage Collection, which features over 6,000 photographs, newspaper reports and other memorabilia from the last 150 years.
