Oberammergau & Munich, the Heart of Bavaria
Munich, the Capital and Heart of Bavaria
Munich is the capital and cultural heart of Bavaria, where both old and new sit side by side. Munich’s role in world history has drawn many visitors to the city, and even more so now with its magnificent parks, gardens and shopping malls.
Munich is a city with a wealth of history and culture which visitors can see as they walk along every street. The city centre retains a small town flair, yet holds some world-class sites. The imposing Frauenkirche Cathedral is a symbol of Munich’s skyline, towering above the rest of the city. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful squares in Germany is Marienplatz Square. In the heart of Munich, it is home to the Old and New Town Halls. The Glockenspiel performs twice a day, and forms part of Munich’s New Town Hall. Reenacting stories from Bavaria’s past, this crowd-drawing clock is a huge part of the city’s identity.
After Munich, we head to Oberammergau to watch the Passion Play, which takes place every ten years. This is a sell-out phenomenon and tickets are once again flying off the shelves. We have added an extra departure due to popular demand, but now with a little under a year to go, we have only one set departure with spaces available. Book now to guarantee your seat at this inspirational and touching performance.
