All our hotels have plenty of rooms for sole occupancy for singles and there is NO SINGLE SUPPLEMENT.

Our packages showcase exciting European holiday destinations and include an ‘ice-breaker’ pre-dinner drink on the first night and group excursions throughout the trip.

Visit the wonderful town of Valkenburg in the beautiful South Limburg region of Holland. Relax in this wonderful setting and explore this charming town. Valkenburg is known for its caves which are full of fascinating murals and intriguing stories. The caves, which once served as escape routes, lead to the famous castle ruins. These are simply fascinating to explore.

During your time in Holland, you’ll stay at the excellent Hotel Walram, a firm favourite with Greatdays customers and where single rooms carry no supplements! Furthermore, this excellent central hotel offers fantastic dinners, followed by tea and coffee. A welcome drink toasts the start of your time in Holland, and give you the chance to get to know your fellow travellers. You can also enjoy a night of music. This is a fantastic opportunity to pop on your dancing shoes and mingle with the group.

This town is near to the point where Holland, Belgium and Germany meet. It’s always wonderful to visit this meeting point! During your stay, visit the historic city of Maastricht. Lively and appealing, it’s a necessary part of any trip to the Netherlands. Enjoy the caves under the city, the Roman ruins and the Belgian influence in the architecture.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1

Arrive in Valkenburg

Travel to Valkenburg and check in to the Walram hotel. Enjoy a welcome drink and mingle with your fellow passengers before sitting down to dinner.

Day 2

Valkenburg is sometimes called the ‘Marlstone Town’ because of the lime found in the soil and the soft yellow marlstone which has, since Roman times, been quarried as building material. As a result, there is now a network of over 150 miles of underground caves beneath the town.

Today you’ll explore the castle ruins and the labyrinth of caves beneath. These served as secret passageways, allowing knights to escape the castle unseen during sieges. Your guide will show you the caves’ treasures such as wall murals and inscriptions and tell of the caves’ secrets. Back above ground, explore the many shops, bars, cafés and restaurants of Valkenburg.

Day 3

The southernmost city in the Netherlands, Maastricht is also known as the ‘Paris of the Benelux’. Enjoy a guided walking tour which will show you the prettiest parts of the old city centre including the Stokstraat Quarter, the Basilica of Our Lady, the Ramparts and the parks plus much, much, more. Perhaps take some time out to explore the network of underground passageways and vaults beneath the city where a large part of the Netherlands’ art treasures were safeguarded during World War II. In the afternoon, we enjoy a sightseeing river cruise for an alternative view of the city.

Day 4

Three Countries, Aachen and the Eiffel Mountains

Today, we all set off on a special excursion as we visit the meeting point of three countries: Belgium, Holland and in Germany and enjoy some free time exploring the great old town and its cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Moving on, drive through the stunning scenery of the Eiffel Mountains to the picturesque village of Monschau, famous for its half-timbered buildings overlooked by a medieval castle. Spend some time exploring before returning to Valkenburg.

Day 5

Return to the UK

Today you depart from Valkenburg and commence your homeward journey.
