St George’s Day Celebration Lunch Essex – NEW FOR 2018
Exclusive to Greatdays
The feast of St George takes place on April 23rd every year. It recognises the patron saint of England, famous for slaying a dragon and saving a distressed maiden. Historically people would wear a rose on their chests. Roses became a symbol of the patron saint because a beautiful bloom is thought to have grown on his grave.
In Catalonia in Spain – of which St George is also a patron saint – women would give men a book and receive a rose in return on the feast day. For us, it is a great excuse for a party!
Come and join us at selected venues in April 2018 to celebrate St Georges Day. Our talented entertainers will lead you in a rousing afternoon of traditional music and songs that will lift your spirits and maybe bring a lump to your throat. Wave your flags high as you sing along. Take part in our topical quiz and join in the charity raffle. Our chosen charity for 2018 is Macmillan Cancer Support.
We invite our daring knights and blushing maidens to dress for the occasion in traditional red and white with roses aplenty. As always, there will be a prize for our favourite outfit. (Dressing up is optional). However you will need to tether your horses outside!
So, saddle your steed, assemble your ladies and join your voices with ours as we celebrate our nation’s great heritage!

Hallmark Hotel London Chigwell Prince Regent ****
Gwynne House was once the heart of Boys’ Garden City, a Barnado’s home offering accommodation to the charity’s flock of children in need. The building is now the Hallmark Hotel London Chigwell Prince Regent. This hotel offers a splendid heritage listed Georgian property with its impressive mellow brick façade, beautiful period windows and private chapel with dramatic flying buttresses. Bought bang up to date with chic contemporary décor, and swaddled by landscaped gardens, it’s an undeniably spectacular setting for special events. The location is within walking distance of Woodford train station that means within 30 minutes you’re in the heart of London. Yet, being just two minutes from the M11 and ten minutes from the M25, there’s free parking at the hotel and plenty of it.
