Lavender and Cider
Yorkshire Lavender
There is a wonderful variety of plant life in the North Yorkshire Wold, some wild and some cultivated by man. Your first stop of the day will be Yorkshire Lavender, an award winning Lavender farm set within the Howardian Hills. You can wander through the fields filled with lavender of all different colours; whites, pinks, blues and lilacs. There are a range of delightful scents so this really is a treat for all of your senses. There are several differently themed gardens as well as the tearoom and well stocked gift shop if you fancy taking some lavender home. Why not try a tasty lavender treat such as a lavender scone or lavender shortbread? The views across the hillside are spectacular so take the time to sit and just admire the beauty of nature.
Ampleforth Abbey
Ampleforth is still a working Abbey with a community of monks who lead all the activities. In addition to the stunning architecture and landscape, the Abbey has an orchard and cider mill where they make a large range of products to use and sell, such as cider, beer honey and beeswax candles. You will immediately feel the peace of the building and learn all about the life of a modern day monk and how Ampleforth has reached out and created world wide links. Visit the visitor centre for the history of the order. Browse the well stocked gift shop for some exclusive products to take home. Above all, find a comfortable place to sit and take time for some quiet contemplation, admiring the beautiful views down the hillside.
