Scotland’s royal connections are revealed in this Royal Scotland tour based in Perth. We travel to Edinburgh and visit The Royal Yacht Britannia, the Palace of Holyrood house, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. In Perthshire we visit Scone Palace, the Crowning Place of Scottish Kings. We also see The Stone of Destiny at Perth Museum and enjoy a tour of the Black Watch Museum.   Venture to the beautiful Royal Deeside, stop off in Braemar and maybe visit Crathie Church, frequented by the Royal family.  Alternatively you may wish to take a trip to Dundee and visit the V&A museum.  We also visit Glamis Castle, childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

Day 1

Travel to your hotel in Perth

If you’re travelling a distance, ask about overnight stops.

Day 2

The Royal Yacht Britannia, Palace of Holyroodhouse and the Royal Botanic Gardens

This morning we visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the King’s official royal residence in Scotland. We then travel to the Royal Botanic Garden. Set in over 70 acres of beautiful landscape and just one mile north of the city centre, the Garden offers a superb panoramic view of the Scottish capital’s skyline featuring Edinburgh Castle. Highlights include the Queen Mother’s Memorial Garden and the Scottish Heath Garden. A few miles away, the port of Leith is home to The Royal Yacht Britannia. An audio tour leads you through the five decks, giving a fascinating insight into the lives of the Royal Family.

Day 3

Scone Palace and Perth Museum

Our first visit today Scone Palace, for Scotland’s royalty in the 1500s. Scone Palace, near Perth, is the seat of parliaments and the crowning place of the Kings of Scots.

Our day concludes with a visit to the newly opened Perth Museum (opening in April 2024), the new home of the Stone of Destiny. An on-site guide will take you on a tour of the museum, before viewing the highlight of the exhibition, the Stone of Destiny, through the immersive, self-guided experience followed by an informative visit to the Black Watch Museum.

Day 4

Royal Deeside, Glamis Castle OR V&A Dundee and Discovery Point

In the morning we visit Glamis Castle, a castle of turrets and towers, and the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother. Next we travel into the scenic Royal Deeside following the River Dee.  We make a short stop at Crathie Kirk, the local church used by the Royal Family.

You may wish to travel to the V&A Dundee, Scotland’s design museum. Be inspired and explore their welcoming space on Dundee’s waterfront, covering everything from fashion to architecture. We also visit  RRS Discovery – This award-winning visitor attraction tells the story of the iconic ship ‘Discovery’ from her beginnings in Dundee, her amazing Antarctic expedition with Captain Scott and her voyages and uses thereafter.

The Salutation, Perth ***

A historic building situated in Perth centre, the award-winning Salutation Hotel has a perfect location whilst offering scenic walks around the River Tay. The hotel has a traditional restaurant and free Wi-Fi in all public areas. All bedrooms have a TV, tea/coffee facilities and a telephone. There is no coach parking on site however there is a pick up and drop off bay outside the hotel. Coach parking is available at Perth Bus Station (charges payable).

The Royal George Hotel, Perth ***

Located in the heart of Perth, just a few minutes from Perth Museum. Once visited by Queen Victoria when the hotel was the George Inn, after her stay, the name was changed to The Royal George Hotel. Many of the 45 traditional rooms have views over the River Tay or Perth promenade. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities, WiFi access and en-suite bathroom. Coach drop off is available near the hotel entrance on George Street. Overnight coach parking is nearby.
