Day 1
Travel to your hotel and Rutland Belle on Rutland Water
Prior to arriving at the hotel, we board the Rutland Belle Cruiser to travel in style on the expanse of Rutland Water. Starting at Whitwell, our cruise takes us on a trip to Normanton. Known for its nature reserve status, you may be lucky enough to see birds in their natural habitat including Ospreys. During the journey there’s a stop at Normanton Church, one of Rutland’s most famous landmarks and a structure that appears to float on the lake when the reservoir is full.
Day 2
Stamford and Burghley House and Gardens
This morning we spend time in the beautiful market town of Stamford, known for its beautifully preserved Georgian architecture, market and shopping. Stamford was featured in Pride and Prejudice, The Crown and Middlemarch. There’s free time to explore the quaint streets and alley-ways of this historic and compact town centre that has more than 600 listed buildings of mellow limestone including five medieval churches.
In the afternoon, we enjoy a visit to Burghley House and Gardens, described as England’s greatest Elizabethan house. Burghley is perhaps best-known for its historical collections of important works of art, early tapestries, impressive Japanese ceramics and sculptures. After your visit to the house, explore the grounds and visit the unusual Garden of Surprises and the Contemporary Sculpture Garden. We believe this magical Elizabethan estate at Burghley is not one to be missed.
Day 3
Travel home and Nene Valley Railway
Before travelling home to your local area, we make our way to Wansford for a 25 minute journey on the Nene Valley Railway to Peterborough. Run by dedicated and experienced volunteers, this living heritage railway passes over the River Nene.
