Hoghton Tower
Set in magnificent grounds, situated 650ft above sea level and approached by a steep, straight 0.75 mile long drive is Hoghton Tower, a 16th century Elizabethan fortified manor-house. The ancestral home of the de Hoghton family, Hoghton Tower has been a part of Lancashire’s landscape since 1565. Join a guided tour of the panelled state rooms to hear about the history of the house, the family and the distinguished guests who have enjoyed the Tower over the centuries.
Lunch at the Calf’s Head
The Calf’s Head Inn is a country restaurant which has a reputation for excellent food and friendly service; a great place for a relaxing lunch. It has a history stretching back 400 years. Most of the current structure was built during Victorian times as the replacement for an ale farmhouse. You are welcome to take a stroll in the garden after lunch. Enjoy the stream running through the garden complete with resident ducks and moorhens. Recommended by every one of our groups for the last eight years.
Tales Tour: The Best of Lancashire
Your guide will now take you on a fascinating scenic drive through Downham, where you will learn about the history of the area and Sawley Abbey. Tales of Highwaymen abound as you travel through Whalley and through to the Trough of Bowland. Your guide is an expert on this area so expect a thoroughly entertaining and informative drive through some of the loveliest countryside in the North West.
Huntley’s
Your last stop of the day will be Huntley’s, an award winning country store. You have time to explore the antiques centre and various outlet shops or just buy a nice relaxing cuppa before you head home.
