Discovering the Beauty of South West Ireland

Emma (UK Product Team), Dawn and Guy (Sales Team) enjoyed an excellent Product Development Trip to South West Ireland. From the Heartlands at Athlone they explored Tipperary, Limerick, Kerry and Cork, and were looked after all the way.

Beginning in Athlone – a key stop in our new Galway and the Little Boats of Ireland tour – they met Viking Mike with his enduring passion for Shannon river trips especially to mystical Clonmacnoise. The County Arms (Hotel) in Birr was a major highlight, with its delightful gardens and faultless hospitality. Lough Derg shimmered in the sunshine as they discovered the fabulous Lakeside Hotel and Spirit of Killaloe boat cruise.

The exceptional spa at the Woodlands Fitzgerald Hotel, Foynes Flying Boat Museum including its expansive Maureen O’Hara exhibition, and the Lartigue Monorail manned by Martin and his crew of volunteers are recommended options for day trips in the region.

County Kerry was a key visit with both Tralee and Killarney offering a selection of strong hotel options for our South West Ireland packages. Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farm is extremely well set up for group visits and the Jaunting Cars retain the region’s historic appeal. A traditional Irish Show enriches the experience and the Celtic Steps’ incredible performance was a treat. All that on offer in addition to spectacular scenic drives of the Ring of Kerry and Dingle peninsulas.

The team continued down through Kenmare in to County Cork, and Glengariff from where the Harbour Queen ferry escorts groups across to enchanting Garnish Island. Bantry is a perfect base for West Cork with Bantry House, local boat trips, Beara Peninsula or Ireland’s Southernmost point at Mizen Head all easily reached. The team returned through Southern Cork via Rosscarbery and Clonakilty – famous for its black pudding. They also made it to Blarney, internationally recognised for its castle but retaining its rural charm.
