Blenheim at Christmas
On this short break we indulge ourselves in an all day visit to Blenheim Palace including the Light Trail and Christmas Markets. On the last day we take a scenic drive of some of the Cotswolds prettiest towns and villages before travelling home. Today we head into Oxfordshire to visit Blenheim Palace, home to the 11th Duke of Marlborough, and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The 2,100 acres of beautiful parkland were landscaped by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. The Baroque architecture is pleasing on the eye with its golden surrounds, enormous wall hangings, rugs and impressive chandeliers. As you enter the Great Hall where your visit starts, the impressive Christmas tree towers over you. Beautifully decorated with traditional Christmas lights, it sets the scene for the rest of your festive visit.
When darkness falls, millions of lights illuminate the trail through the gardens and grounds. Fountains and water features are lit with colourful lights that means around every corner, there will be new scene aglow with festive cheer to enhance your visit.
To complete your visit, the Great Court houses wooden chalet style Christmas market stalls selling gifts and treats.
We then make our way back to the hotel for our 3 course evening meal.
