Day 1
Travel to Brussels and City Sightseeing (Friday)
Make your way to the Eurostar Terminal at St. Pancras Station, London and take a mid-day train to Brussels Midi. On arrival, meet up with a local experienced guide who will join you on the transfer coach for a ‘Welcome to Brussels’ guided tour where you will see the Royal Palace, Royal Courts of Justice and European Parliament Buildings. View the Art Nouveau houses in Palmerston Street, the exquisite Maison Saint Cyr and visit The Cauchie House built in 1905 which was originally the home to Paul Cauchie and Caroline Voet, a couple of artists and decorators.
Check-in, relax and enjoy dinner together in the hotel this evening.
Day 2
Horta Museum and Art Nouveau in Saint-Gilles (Saturday)
After breakfast at the hotel, board the awaiting coach for the short transfer to the Horta Museum for a private tour. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of the protaganist of Belgian Art Nouveau, Victor Horta. The museum is housed in his former town house and studio.
Following the visit, there will be a guided walking tour in the footsteps of architects whose buildings are striking manifestos of Art Nouveau together with an opportunity for an optional visit to Hannon House.
The rest of the day and evening is at leisure.
Day 3
Comic Strip Centre and Belle Epoque Pubs Tour (Sunday)
Make a visit of the Belgian Comic Strip Centre, a masterpiece of Art Nouveau and also designed by Victor Horta but unlike many Art Nouveau architectural works, this is not a private residence, but a ‘trade temple’ inaugurated in 1906. Perhaps visit the former Old England department store, now home to the Musical Instruments Museum, an Art Nouveau building constructed in 1899 out of girded steel and glass.
Continue with a walking tour of pre-war Brussels pubs, some of which have kept their Art Nouveau or Art Deco decoration (2 drinks included) before taking dinner in a local Art Nouveau Brassiere with authentic Belgian cuisine.
Day 4
Return to the UK
After breakfast, there may be time for some last minute sightseeing before transferring to Brussels Midi Station in good time for the afternoon Eurostar train to London St. Pancras Station.
