Best Seller – Tried and Tested – Highly Recommended

Just as the summer begins to fade, the charming Dutch village of Zundert hosts a phenomenal flower festival.  Unsurprisingly, the annual Zundert Flower Parade and the town decked in dahlias attract tens of thousands of visitors every year. One of the Netherlands’ most beautiful parades, the impressive structures built from flowers have been turning heads since 1936. This event is a must-see for fans of flowers, art or the downright bizarre!

Millions of locally-grown dahlias go into making the annual Zundert Flower Parade one of Europe’s most magnificent spectacles. Furthermore, the extravaganza requires hundreds of hours’ volunteering. The Bloemencorso has seen local communities compete in the Dutch village of Zundert for over 70 years. As the floats have grown from dahlia-adorned bikes and carts to colossal floral dioramas, so too has the crowd grown. Every year on the first Sunday of September, this Dutch village close to the Belgian border buzzes with thousands of visitors, drawn by beautiful and surreal floats. Entertainers add to the lively atmosphere, while local markets offer many browsing opportunities.

Rebecca in the European team has just returned from the 2018 parade and Claire from the Sales Team attended in September 2017 too. If you have any questions about the event, they are very keen to share their personal experiences with you! They were captivated by the magnificent display of nature and art and highly recommend the tour!

What’s more, Zundert’s position on the Belgian and Dutch borders means you can spend the rest of your tour visiting some of Holland and Belgium’s main cities. Perhaps visit fascinating port town, Rotterdam, or beautiful historic Antwerp.

Suggested itinerary by coach

Day 1

Arrive in the Netherlands

Travel to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais, then continue to your chosen hotel in North Belgium or South Holland.

Day 2

Rotterdam or Antwerp

Why not visit Rotterdam?

Staying in Holland, perhaps visit Rotterdam, a bustling port town, Rotterdam has long been a hub of activity.  Explore the harbour, perhaps admiring the boats in port. Divided by the Nieuwe Maas shipping channel, Rotterdam is a city of tunnels and bridges, including the dramatic swooping Erasmusbrug. Additionally, you could take a boat cruise and see a view of the city that merchants have enjoyed for centuries – from the water. Alternatively, visit the Esher Museum where the artworks on display are captivating optical illusions.

Perhaps you prefer Antwerp!

Perhaps travel into Belgium to visit its stunning second city, Antwerp.  A city full of culture, it boasts stunning architecture and a charming historic centre. Despite suffering greatly in WW2, the city’s intriguing medieval heart survived. Popular with fashion moguls and art lovers, this charming city also draws those looking to please their palates! Why not enjoy the city while sipping a locally brewed beer or sampling chocolates. Enjoy its bountiful offering of cobbled lanes, brimming with cafes, a magnificent cathedral and an imposing riverside fortress. For art lovers, there is a myriad of opportunities to admire the works of baroque artist Pieter Paul Rubens.

Day 3

Zundert Flower Parade Day – Dutch Dahlias on Display

Travel to the Dutch village of Zundert for their famous Dahlia Parade. Spend the morning exploring the town and let the many performers dotted around the streets entertain you. Browse the local markets before taking your seats for the parade.

The afternoon is spent watching the Flower Parade which volunteers have been preparing for a whole year to create. The parade passes down the main streets of the town before stopping for a break for visitors to inspect and admire the floats before resuming its route around the town and the award ceremony for the best float. Zundert also provides music and theatre performances throughout the town during the day.

Day 4

Return to the UK

Maybe spend some time getting close to the parade floats on show in Zundert before driving to Calais for the return ferry to the UK.
