Eat, Drink and be Melton – NEW TOUR
Leicestershire is a county famous for its food and drink. At the heart of all of this is the market town of Melton Mowbray, with a growing reputation as the UK’s ‘Rural Capital of Food’. On this new tour we combine a guided walking tour of the town. On this walking tour we visit Ye Olde Pork Pie Shop and the Melton Cheeseboard. We take lunch in the heart of the countryside, stop-off at Brockleby’s Farm Shop, and go behind the scenes at Belvoir Brewery, a fast-growing micro-brewery. Oh, and did we mention the tastings? Melton, walking tour, Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, Melton Cheeseboard, lunch at Grange Garden Centre and Alpine Restaurant, Belvoir Brewery
This morning we take a 90-minute guided walking tour of Melton Mowbray to discover the secrets of this delightful market town, once home to Anne of Cleves, Henry XVIII’s celebrated fourth wife. We visit the world-famous Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, discover how to ‘hand-raise’ a pie, and enjoy a tasting. A short walk away is the Melton Cheeseboard, a delightful shop selling more than 150 different cheeses, for another tasting.
We take lunch at the Grange Garden Centre and Alpine Restaurant, a wooden ski lodge located in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside. Within the grounds of the centre is Brockleby’s Farm Shop, where you can buy locally produced goodies. In the afternoon we take a gentle drive through the picturesque Leicestershire countryside, with views of the imposing Belvoir Castle, situated high above the Vale of Belvoir. Our final stop is at Belvoir Brewery, an award-winning micro-brewery. A tour reveals many of the secrets of the process, ending with a tasting. We return to the hotel with time to relax before dinner.
Note – Depending on dates and availability, it may be possible to include a visit and a tour of Belvoir Castle. In October, Melton hosts the East Midlands Food and Drink Festival, with more than 50 different local food and drink suppliers. Your tour itinerary can be tailored to suit. Ask for details.
If route and time permit, why not include a stop-off at Foxton Locks, Rockingham Castle, Calke Abbey, Donington Le Heath manor House or the National Memorial Arboretum.
