Set against the majestic backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, the world-famous Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes place each August. The Scottish capital comes alive with a unique and unforgettable evening of music, ceremony, theatre and dance.
Edinburgh is a vibrant city and has many attractions and sights to discover. Visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland, or venture to see the Edinburgh Castle which dominates the skyline. Some may choose to make the most of the Edinburgh countryside, with picturesque gardens and parks. Whilst others may choose to hit the high street for a spot of retail therapy. Whatever your interest, Edinburgh is packed with activities for everyone’s taste!

Day 1
Travel to your hotel
The Greatdays’ team can offer suggestions for a stop-off on the journey. Enjoy time to relax before dinner at the hotel.
Day 2
Free time in Edinburgh and evening at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
After breakfast we head into Edinburgh for a full day with plenty of time to see the city’s many attractions. Optional visits can be arranged to visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the King’s official residence in Scotland, and the home of Mary, Queen of Scots. Visits can also be arranged to The Royal Yacht Britannia, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, or perhaps a relaxing boat trip on the Firth of Forth. You will have ample time to get something to eat before making your way to the Castle for the start of a spectacular evening of entertainment. Note that the streets leading up to the Castle are cobbled and that there are steps leading to the Tattoo seating. At the end of the show we make our way to the coach to return to the hotel late evening.

Salutation Hotel Perth ***
Located right at the heart of the historic City of Perth in a historic building, this ancient hotel offers traditional Scottish hospitality with all modern comforts. Edinburgh city centre is only 45 minutes ‘drive while Perth’s main shops and theatres are within a few minutes’ walk. Hotel facilities include lounge area, bar and restaurant. All the 84 bedrooms are individual in size and shape but all have as standard en-suite bathrooms and tea & coffee making facilities. Wi-Fi is available in public areas; there is no coach parking at the hotel but there is a drop off and pick up point outside.
Golden Lion Hotel Stirling ***
Located in Stirling city centre, with many shops and bars on its doorstep. The restaurant offers local and continental cuisine; bar; lounge area and free internet access. All rooms are en-suite with flat screen satellite TV; tea & coffee making facilities.
The hotel has a lift to all floors. Coach parking is a ten minute uphill walk away at Stirling Castle.
Malmaison Dundee ****
This centrally located hotel is ideal for exploring Dundee and the wider region, including just over an hours easy drive to Edinburgh. The hotel is in walking distance of the V&A Museum and Discovery Point. There are 120 modern and luxurious bedrooms, some with walk-in showers. There is a lift to all floors and complimentary coach parking 2 minutes from the hotel.

Perhaps visit Stirling Castle, Scotland’s ‘Royal’ castle, stopping off on the way to see the Falkirk Wheel, the world’s only rotating boat lift, and The Kelpies, the remarkable 30-metre high horse head sculptures. Please note Edinburgh Tattoo tickets are subject to availability and are not included in the price. Tickets are priced from approx £30.00 to £95.00, and full details are usually available in the late Autumn with confirmed ticket prices. Please note that full payment is required to enable us to request and book tickets from the Edinburgh Tattoo office, and we will contact you later in the year to discuss this. Please note that there is a £1.50 booking fee per ticket.
