Day 1
Travel to your hotel
For something different, stop off at Carnforth Station, the setting for the classic 1945 film ‘Brief Encounter’.
On arrival at your hotel, Cumbria Grand, you will be welcomed with a glass of fizz to enjoy before settling in.
Day 2
Lakeland Motor Museum, Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway and cruise on Lake Windermere
This morning we travel to the Lakeland Motor Museum, a unique collection of more than 30,000 exhibits, including 140 classic cars and motorbikes. There’s time for a light lunch (not included) before we travel the short distance to board the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway for a 20-minute steam train journey to Lakeside. A 40-minute cruise on Lake Windermere brings us to Bowness where there’s free time to explore the town.
Day 3
Scenic Settle to Carlisle railway and Carlisle
The highlight today is a ride on the spectacular Settle to Carlisle railway, travelling the 72 miles through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, across the famous Ribblehead viaduct, and through the gentle rolling hills of the Eden Valley to the border city of Carlisle. There’s free time to explore the historic city, including the Castle and Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life.
Day 4
Ullswater Cruise and Keswick
Start the day with a relaxing cruise on spectacular Ullswater. We join our ‘Steamer’ at Pooley Bridge and make our way the nine miles to Glenridding. We then travel to the small market town of Keswick to visit the Thursday local craft and produce market.
Day 5
Return home
Before leaving the Lakes, why not spend some time in Grange over Sands. You could take a walk along the town’s mile long promenade, get spectacular views over the town from Hampsfield Fell or visit St Paul’s Church.
