This tour features guided tours of Castlefield Viaduct and RHS Bridgewater, two recently opened gardens in Greater Manchester. First we visit Castlefield Viaduct, an Industrial structure in the heart of Manchester transformed by the National Trust into a ‘garden in the sky’. Next we visit RHS Bridgewater, featuring glorious gardens set against a historic landscape. This tour also includes a guided tour of Manchester and overnight stay in the city.

Guided tour of Manchester
This afternoon we take a tour of the most famous sights of Manchester and listen to unusual tales and curiosities as you travel through Manchester’s busy streets. Our knowledgeable guide will describe the city’s heritage as the birthplace of new ideas, innovations and great inventions (optional walking tour or coach tour).
Monday
Guided tours of Castlefield Viaduct and RHS Bridgewater
After breakfast we begin our day at Castlefield Viaduct. Built in 1892, the Viaduct is a core part of Manchester’s Industrial heritage. After years of standing empty it has recently been transformed by the National Trust into a ‘garden in the sky’- an accessible green space within the city. Our visit takes place on Monday morning before the doors open to the public, where we enjoy a private guided tour exploring the trees, flowers and shrubs on display, followed by tea, coffee and biscuits.
In the afternoon we visit RHS Bridgewater. Opened in 2021 on the former site of Worsley New Hall, the garden designers have blended the historical landscape with world-class horticulture to create ‘gardens within a garden’, with highlights including The Paradise Garden, Kitchen Garden and Walled Garden. Our visit includes a 1 hour guided tour. After our visit we return home.
