At Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, step on board Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory and also visit the Mary Rose Museum. Next visit the old town, where you can wander the cobbled streets before enjoying one of the traditional pubs. At the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, within 50 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside, you can explore the historic buildings and scenic gardens. Don’t miss out on exploring the town of Chichester before you leave.

Day 1

Travel to your hotel

If time permits, why not plan a route that takes you through the delightful South Downs National Park. The Greatdays team can advise you on places to stop-off for afternoon tea.

Day 2

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Old Portsmouth

This morning we visit Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, with an opportunity to step aboard Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory and visit the recently re-opened Mary Rose Museum. Perhaps take the 45-minute Harbour Tour that takes you close to Portsmouth Naval Base, home to almost two-thirds of the Royal Navy’s surface ships. Later in the afternoon visit Old Portsmouth, with its cobbled streets, picturesque Camber Dock, traditional pubs and tucked-away tearooms, or Gunwharf Quays, with 90 outlet stores and 30 restaurants, bars and cafés.

Day 3

Weald and Downland Open Air Museum and Chichester

Today we visit the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum. Set in 50 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside, there are some 50 historic buildings dating from the 13th to the 19th century to discover, together with period gardens, animals, woodland walks and lakes. In the afternoon we travel to historic Chichester where there’s history on every corner, from the Tudor Market Cross to the dominant Norman cathedral.

Return home
