Travel to your hotel
If time and route permit, why not travel to your hotel via the Cotswolds to see some of the picturesque market towns and villages.
Day 2
Steam train ride and Cheltenham
This morning, we travel to Broadway, often referred to as the ‘Jewel of the Cotswolds’. The pretty tree-lined High Street includes a mixture of period houses and picturesque honey-coloured Cotswold stone cottages. We then travel to Broadway station for a steam train ride on the Gloucester Warwickshire Railway.
Specifically designed as a pleasure health resort for wealthy visitors, Cheltenham Spa is an elegant town with many of its Regency, architectural and heritage features still to be seen today.
Day 3
Gloucester, its Cathedral and Historic Docks
Today we travel to Gloucester. Our first stop is the 11th century Gloucester Cathedral, where a volunteer guide will reveal many of the stories and secrets of this extraordinary building. Of special interest is the medieval Great Cloister, famous for its fan vaulting. The cloisters have also appeared in the Harry Potter films and on TV in Sherlock, Wolf Hall and Doctor Who. The historic Gloucester Docks, just a short walk away, offers a dramatic waterfront, converted warehouses and an array of restaurants and bars. Next door is Gloucester Quays with more than 60 outlet shops.

This morning, we visit Stratford-upon-Avon and Shakespeare’s Birthplace, a timber-framed townhouse in the centre of the town. A short journey away by coach is the childhood home of Mrs Shakespeare, the world-famous Anne Hathaway’s Cottage. We then join our boat for a relaxing afternoon sightseeing cruise on the River Avon.
