The Greatdays team can offer you suggestions for a stop-off on the journey.
Buxton Walking Tour and Poole’s Cavern.
We begin today with a visit to Buxton. On our one hour walking tour we will discover secrets and stories relating to the famous spa town, as our guide shows us the sights including the Edwardian Opera House, Pavilion Gardens, Buxton Crescent and Devonshire Dome. After our tour we enjoy free time in Buxton where you can have lunch in one of the many coffee shops. In the afternoon we visit Poole’s Cavern, a natural wonder of the Peak District. Our expert guide takes us beneath the earth to explore the vast limestone caverns with crystal stalactites that are millions of years old.
Eyam and Peak Rail.
Today we visit the picturesque village of Eyam and its museum. Here we discover the moving story of life in the ‘plague village’, including the tragic tales of people who sacrificed their lives to protect their neighbours. Next we join the Peak Rail at South Station Rowsley to experience the delight of travelling through the Derbyshire countryside by train. We make a return journey to Matlock along part of the old Midland Railway line which ran from Manchester Central and London St Pancras.
On the way home your group may choose to visit The Great British Car Journey, a new attraction near Derwent Valley Mill. The attraction features over 100 cars dating from the 1930s to the 2005 when MG Rover went into administration. Cars include Austin 7s, Minis, an iconic Morris Million as well as many Rovers, Fords, Vauxhalls and Hillmans (supplement on request).
