Day 1
Travel to the Borders
Contact Greatdays staff for various ideas to stop off enroute depending on where you are travelling from before arriving at your hotel in the Borders for your first taste of Scottish hospitality.
Day 2
Rosslyn Chapel, Great Tapestry and Abbotsford
Visit Rosslyn Chapel. Founded back in 1446 this chapel is steeped in history. The visitor centre tells the Chapel’s story from the 15th century. Drive through the Tweed Valley to Galashiels and the Great Tapestry of Scotland. Learn how the tapestry unfolded. Local historian Alistair Moffat selected iconic moments such as the life of Sir Walter Scott, along with every day stories of millworkers and farmers. Have lunch in Galashiels before the last visit of the day at ‘Abbotsford’, discover Scott’s life and learn about objects that inspired his poetry.
Day 3
Royal Yacht Britannia and city of Edinburgh
Visit the Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith. An informative audio tour leads you through the five decks, giving a fascinating insight into the lives of the Royal Family. Spend the afternoon in Scotland’s resplendent capital, Edinburgh.
Day 4
Traquair House, brewery tour, free time in Peebles
Drive along the south side of the river Tweed to Traquair House, over 900 years old, it’s Scotland’s oldest inhabited house and continues to be a family home to this day. After an introductory talk and self-guided tour of the house you will have a guided tour of Traquair House Brewery which lies in the wing of the house directly underneath the Chapel. It dates back to the early 1700’s. Free time this afternoon to explore the pleasant town of Peebles
Day 5
Return home
After a full Scottish breakfast we return home. Why not call in Hawick, a town famous for its Cashmere, Tweed and Whisky.
