The Scottish borders are easily accessible, stunningly scenic and rich in history. This tour is based in Peebles, originally an old Royal Burgh. Well known over the years as a popular holiday destination ‘Peebles for Pleasure’. This tour includes visits to the historic homes of Abbotsford and Traquair along with Rosslyn Chapel made world famous by bestselling novel the Da Vinci Code.

Day 1
Travel to the Borders
Contact Greatdays staff for various ideas to stop off enroute depending on where you are travelling from before arriving at your hotel in the Borders for your first taste of Scottish hospitality.
Day 2
Rosslyn Chapel, Great Tapestry and Abbotsford
Visit Rosslyn Chapel, founded in 1446 and steeped in history. The visitor centre brings the Chapel’s story to life, from the 15th century to today. Drive through the beautiful Tweed Valley to Galashiels and the Great Tapestry of Scotland, discovering how its story unfolds through iconic moments, from Sir Walter Scott to the everyday lives of millworkers and farmers. Enjoy lunch in Galashiels before visiting Abbotsford, Scott’s former home, to discover his life and the objects that inspired his poetry.
Day 3
Royal Yacht Britannia and city of Edinburgh
Visit the Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith. An informative audio tour leads you through the five decks, giving a fascinating insight into the lives of the Royal Family. Spend the afternoon in Scotland’s resplendent capital, Edinburgh.
Day 4
Traquair House, brewery tour, free time in Peebles
Drive along the south side of the River Tweed to Traquair House, over 900 years old and Scotland’s oldest inhabited house, still home to the family today. Following an introductory talk and self-guided tour, enjoy a guided visit to Traquair House Brewery, housed beneath the Chapel and dating back to the early 1700s. Spend the afternoon exploring the charming town of Peebles at leisure.
Day 5
Return home
After a full Scottish breakfast we return home. Why not call in Hawick, a town famous for its Cashmere, Tweed and Whisky.
