Learn about the life and art of Rembrandt, one of the most famous and influential painters of the Dutch Golden-Age, renowned for his self-portraits and biblical scenes. Visit his birthplace, Leiden, to discover his early years, and Amsterdam where his former home is now a world-famous museum.

Day 1
Travel to Holland
Take the P & O cruise ferry from Hull for a relaxing overnight sail across the North Sea to Europoort (Rotterdam). Embarkation usually takes place from mid-afternoon and there is plenty of time to explore, enjoy a buffet dinner on board and watch the entertainment on offer. Or just sit and relax in one of the bars or cafes and enjoy a drink. The ship departs around 8.30 pm and arrives next day approximate 8.30 am (local time).
Day 2
Arrival Rotterdam – Leiden and The Hague
Disembark after breakfast and travel to Leiden, the birthplace of Rembrandt. Meet up with with a local specialist guide for a unique walking tour of Rembrandt locations including a digital reconstruction of the house where he was born. A visit will also be made to the studio of his mentor, Jacob van Swanenburg and the Latin School which Rembrandt attended from the age of 7.
After the visit, there will be time to get some lunch and maybe an optional canal cruise before continuing to our hotel in The Hague for 2 nights.
Dinner is included at the hotel this evening.
Day 3
Amsterdam
Museum Rembrandt Huis is the only place in the world where you can experience how the artist once lived. In the homely setting of the museum on the Jodenbreestraat, get to know the man behind his art.
After the visit, there will be some free time before continuing to the iconic Rijksmuseum for a visit and tour. It is home to more than 8000 works of Dutch Art including masterpieces by Rembrandt (The Night Watch) and other famous artists.
Return to the hotel for dinner and an evening at leisure.
Day 4
The Hague and Overnight Ferry
This morning, meet up with a local guide for a walking tour of The Hague to discover the history of this beautiful city. Admire the Hofvijer and take a look at ‘het Binnenhof’, the centre of government. Hear the stories of the Orange Family and see the Royal Palace and Gardens.
After some free time for lunch, a visit will be made of The Mauritshuis, a world class museum and home to iconic masterpieces including Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt.
From here, continue to Rotterdam port and embark on the overnight cruise ferry back to the UK, once again enjoying all the facilities and a buffet dinner on board.
Day 5
Arrival into Hull
Disembark after breakfast and continue the journey home.
4* Leonardo Hotel Den Haag Babylon
Centrally located near the railway station and overlooking a park. The hotel offers a restaurant, bar, gym and there is also a lift. Coach parking is a five-minute walk but coach can drop-off and pick-up outside the hotel.
This itinerary can be adapted for departures from the UK by coach and short sea ferry crossing from Dover to Calais or Dunkerque or by Air from the UK to Amsterdam. Alternative overnight ferry crossings, with coach, from Newcastle-Amsterdam or Harwich-Hoek v. Holland are also possible.
