Shop for Christmas decorations and gifts from more than 50 shops inside the Velvet and Municipal Caves. Bright lights and Christmas trees with charming decorations illuminate the caves’ darkest corners. Located in the southern Netherlands, the beautiful town of Valkenburg is the country’s oldest tourist centre, perhaps visit the famous castle ruins, museums as well as the marlstone caves.

Day 1
Arrive in Valkenburg
Travel to Dover and board your ferry to Calais. Travel overland through Belgium to Valkenburg, where you can settle into the hotel and enjoy dinner.
Day 2
Valkenburg Christmas Market Caves and old town walk
Enjoy a full day exploring Valkenburg and the town’s magnificent Christmas Markets which are held in two caves deep under the city. Perhaps drink a hot chocolate whilst browsing the stalls and take in the magical location and atmosphere. It is unlike any Christmas Market you have ever seen! What’s more, in addition to the caves, there are the castle ruins, museums as well as a chair lift offering great views and a collection of shops, street cafés and restaurants.
Day 3
Charming Christmas Market in Aachen
Venture to the three countries ‘meeting point’, where Belgium, Holland and Germany come together. Continue just over the border into Germany to discover the charming town of Aachen. Enjoy free time exploring the great old town and its treasure filled cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Aachen’s brightly lit Christmas market is set around the cathedral and town hall. This lovingly decorated ‘Christmas village’ on the market square has something for everyone. One local speciality you really must try is the Aachen Printen, a kind of gingerbread.
Return to the hotel where you will have an evening of music entertainment.
Day 4
Magical Maastricht Christmas Market
Only a short drive to Maastricht, the southernmost city in the Netherlands, is also known as the ‘Paris of the Benelux’. Under the moniker of ‘Magical Maastricht’, the city goes into full Christmas mode! Vrijthof Square, in the heart of the town is the centre of Christmas activities, with a large market, ice rink, Ferris wheel and much more to discover!
Enjoy your last night’s evening entertainment with a DJ and music.
Day 5
Return to the UK
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and bid farewell to Valkenburg, before continuing your journey back to the UK. If time permits, perhaps make a stop in the romantic city Brugge.
