Enjoy the winter garden wonderland's of Cheshire

This winter, enjoy a trip to Cheshire to see the gardens of Dunham Massey, RHS Bridgewater and Ordsall Hall. See the stunning snowdrops at Dunham Massey and explore the Weston Walled Garden at RHS Bridgewater.

Discover the delights of Britain’s largest winter garden at Dunham Massey, where the white carpet will be rolled out for visitors during snowdrop season. The garden contains almost 700 different plant species and a further 1,600 shrubs specifically bred for the seven-acre wonder. It’s definitely the most wonderful time of the year when the after-dark, illuminated trail winds magically through the formal gardens and deer park of Dunham Massey.

RHS Bridgewater is currently the largest current garden project in Europe and will finally be complete in May 2021. This once in a generation opening sees the Royal Horticultural Society take inspiration from the heritage of the site and transform it into a world-class garden. RHS Bridgewater was once home to Worsley New Hall, a Victorian Mansion surrounded by formal gardens and Woodlands. The Hall became a Red Cross Hospital during the First World war , and then sadly fell into decline. The RHS took over in 2017 and the transformation is underway to create a world-class garden and a local community champion.

Ordsall Hall, located in Salford has had a long and interesting history with many different uses since it was first mentioned in records in 1177! Today, it is a welcoming and friendly historic house telling the story of the Hall and some of the people who made it their home. As well as this, Ordsall Hall is an RHS Training Centre and is managed by Garden Organic guidelines to benefit wildlife and people. The site is proud to grow Heritage Seeds, conserving endangered heritage varieties of vegetables and plants.

At 7 acres, Dunham’s Winter Garden is the largest of its kind in the UK. Designed with the help of plantsman Roy Lancaster OBE, the garden is home to over 1600 winter shrubs, trees and evergreens chosen for their scent, colour and texture.

Next we visit newly opened RHS Bridgewater where our guide takes us around the Tom Stuart-Smith created garden, and Harris Bug Studio Kitchen garden.

Day 3

Ordsall Hall and return home

Before travelling home we visit Ordsall Hall for a guided tour and refreshments.
