Highly Recommended

The Danube is the second longest river in Europe, starting in Germany’s Black Forest and flowing for a distance of about 1,770 miles through Austria and further east until it finally empties into the Black Sea. Our Danube River Cruise takes you from Passau to Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Dürnstein – Melk and back to Passau.

On this Danube River Cruise, begin in Passau and travel towards the border between Austria and Germany, admiring the picturesque views along the way. The following day arrive in Melk, where you will have the chance to visit Benedictine Abbey, overlooking Danube.

Imperial Vienna

Cruise further along the Danube, past quaint pretty villages, before reaching Vienna, with stunning architecture and cosy coffee houses. Home to Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Strauss (both father and son), and Beethoven – as well a wealth of other greats – Vienna is truly the city of music. The notes vibrate melodically from the space between buildings. The city’s many venues, from the renowned Musikverein to the Staatsoper, still boast some of the world’s best acoustic experiences. In amongst the fine dining and vaulted Vinothek wine cellars lie some of the quaintest and most classically Austrian eating spots imaginable. Grand coffee houses serve cakes and pastries almost too ornate to eat while the pub-like Beisln of the city off the warm embrace of hearty wiener schnitzel and other Austrian favourites

Hungary’s Capital on the Danube

In Budapest enjoy wandering the winding streets of Buda and the deep history of Pest.  Standing proudly on the banks on the mighty Danube, the Hungarian capital, Budapest, is a city of two halves. ‘Buda’ with Castle Hill is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The larger ‘Pest’ is home to the Parliament, Heroes’ Square and Andrássy Avenue. The whole city is a delight for the eyes – with architectural highlights from throughout history and impressive monuments on every corner. While you walk across the famous Chain Bridge, look out for the incredibly detailed lion sculptures which guard each side. The bridge was the first link for the two halves of the cities and didn’t open until 1849.

Continue to Bratislava, the charming Slovakian capital, with an attractive old town and many monuments to discover. Cruising along the Danube will bring you back to Passau where you will disembark the ship with many life long memories!
