RHS Garden Harlow Carr

RHS Garden Harlow Carr captures the essence of Yorkshire within a beautiful garden setting. The must-visit garden in this part of the country. It will inspire and delight all interests with its innovative design and creative planting.

Once the site of a Victorian hotel and bath house, visitors paid to bathe in the warm waters, and the first gardens were laid out around the site. After the Second World War, the Northern Horticultural Society was formed, and in 1950 Harlow Carr Botanical Gardens were opened.

Dates

RHS Harlow Carr Gardens are open all year round 9.30am – 6pm. The gardens close at 4pm in winter, please check www.rhs.org.uk/groups if you are visiting between October and March. Closed on Christmas Day.


Garden Highlights for Groups

Streamside

Running the length of RHS Harlow Carr is one of the longest streamside gardens in the country, the jewel of the garden.

The Kitchen Garden

RHS Garden Harlow Carr includes raised beds for vegetables, a fruit and herb garden, willow beds, and plenty of flowers for cutting.

Alpine House

Sitting majestically at the top of the valley, affording a stunning view of the Woodland, the 24m (80ft) glass Alpine House provides an ideal setting for different specimens.

The Winter Walk

Celebrating 10 years in 2016 – the walk is magical, especially when low light and frosts highlight the striking array of shapes, textures and colours.

The Main Borders

One of the many jewels in Harlow Carr’s crown, the main borders feature spectacular plantings of herbaceous perennials, grasses, bulbs and shrubs, with a beautiful vista over the main garden.

Woodland Glade

From rhododendrons and narcissi in spring, to magical bluebells in May, on to the foxgloves, largeleaved hostas and giant Himalayan lilies as summer progresses, this is a wonderful sight throughout the year.


Delicious food to tempt you

A day out at RHS Garden Harlow Carr would not be complete without taking a break at Yorkshire’s well known ‘Bettys Café Tea Room and Shop’. Indulge yourself in one (or two!) delicious treats and a well earned cup of tea.
